The Foundation was founded in 1995. It is an alumni/parent/community partnership that is committed to supporting the students, faculty and staff in providing a quality education to all students at Boone High School. Our mission is to improve, enhance, and supplement the educational programs, instruction and capabilities of the school and its staff to provide greater educational opportunities for the students. To date, the Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation under IRS regulations, has raised over $250,000. All monies raised go directly backto Boone High School in the form of educational equipment and teacher grants, which are used to enhance the student’s educational experience in the classroom. Some examples of how the funds are used are as follows: for a three-year period a $10,000 per year grant was awarded to the science department for lab materials and equipment, and yearly grants up to $500 are awarded to teachers for needs that are not met by the funding of the school board. In previous years the Foundation has also awarded scholarships to deserving students, but beginning in 2006, the BHS Scholarship Committee was formed to facilitate the scholarship award process.
In addition, the William R. Boone High School Foundation is pleased to be the sponsor for the Alumni Directory.
The Foundation Board is made up of 12 members which are listed on the next page. Eight of the board members are alumni from various class years and are noted on the list.
The Board co-chaired the 50th year anniversary game between Boone and Edgewater at the Florida Citrus Bowl (formerly the Tangerine Bowl) on November 8, 2002, with over 24,000 in attendance. Boone’s share of the game proceeds was over $90,000 for the Foundation and sports programs at Boone.
We all want the educational experience at Boone High School to be the best it can be. Your active support would help. You can support the Foundation with a financial contribution to the “Circle of Friends Campaign.” In 2004 the Foundation began collecting funds to help make a difference. The Circle of Friends donors are recognized each year with a plaque that is prominently displayed on the “Brave Head” wall in the new administration building on the Boone Campus. A wall has been dedicated for the Foundation to use to show recognition to our financial supporters.
